[TRANS] 150115 Oh! Sen (Osen Focus) – ‘International Market’ Jung Yunho, SM’s Box Office Actor is Born

Singer and actor Jung Yunho (U-Know Yunho, TVXQ) became a surprise box-office star produced by the movie ‘Ode to My Father’ which has had more than 10 million viewers ( so far).

As ‘Ode to My Father’ was crowned as the 14th movie with 10 million viewers on Jan. 13th, Jung Yunho’s appearance in the movie has become highly significant. Jung Yunho is an idol in SM Entertainment company.

The movie is about an oldest son named DukSoo who recollects his life through modern Korean history, starting from the Withdrawal from Port of HeungNam, the dispatch of Koreans as miners to West Germany, the Vietnam War, the search for dispersed families and so on.
In the movie, Jung Yunho acted tastefully in the role of the legend singer Nam Jin.

Director Yoon JeKyoon said, “I chose Yunho because he had respect toward Sir Nam Jin and such passion toward the role and was able to speak in perfect Jeolla province dialect.”
Jung Yunho takes the role of Nam Jin, who was one of the two iconic Korean pop singers of the 1970s alongside Na HoonAh, and displays a unique charm and strong presence ( in the movie).
He also contributed in promoting for the movie by appearing for its movie premiere.

Director Yoon also expressed 100% satisfaction in selecting Jung Yunho.
He said, “I was distressed about selecting an actor for the role of Nam Jin. Because Sir Nam Jin is a legend of Jeolla province. The criteria for the right actor were to be a singer, first of all, and to be able to speak in perfect Jeolla dialect. The list for the famous singers arrived and the most number of people recommended Jung Yunho as the best.”

He also lavished with compliments by saying, “ So I met him first. Above all, he is such a nice human being. As we talked, I was taken by him within 30 min. to 1 hour learning about human Jung Yunho. I can’t deny I didn’t have a prejudice against idols. But he was 180 degrees different. He also talked about his father and Sir Nam Jin and expressed respect and passion toward them as a native of Kwangju, Jeolla province and I really liked it.”
He also said, “One of the proud and rewarding moments as a director was when many people praised by saying ‘Jung Yunho is such a good actor’. My prejudice against idols has been gotten rid of completely after I worked with Jung Yunho. At first, I thought he would be spoiled but not at all. His nickname is ajumma ( meaning that Yunho is that easy-going/ unaffected).”

In addition, he told about the casting process that progressed with lightning speed after he fell for Yunho by saying, “I liked Yunho’s confidence and passion toward acting with respect for Sir Nam Jin. He was the exact person that fit for the criteria i was looking for. There were other candidates but I cancelled all of them after I met with Yunho.”
Yunho was said to show so much passion by asking if he could try one more time even when the director Yoon said OK.
