Of course, as Yunho is from Gwangju, I had the thought that movie’s stage (setting), Busan and dialect would be entirely different, but I was surprised as the Busan dialect was also used there
Tae Hoon (CODE-V): I had thought of U-Know senior who is normally fixed as a cool senior, but in the movie, he showed a totally different image, I thought he was professional, as expected.
In-Seok: In U-Know Yunho’s movie scene, I was expecting to see if he would sing a TVXQ song, but as expected, it wasn’t! (laughs) I wanted (to hear) ANDROID (Tohoshinki’s July 11 2012 single)! I like it a lot.1

`Ode to My Father’, a film in which TVXQ’s Yunho, who also has an active career as an actor, makes an appearance, opens May 16th. Director Yoon Je-Kyoon has responded to our interview during his recent visit to Japan.
TVXQ’s Yunho, whom Vogue Japan has covered many times in the past. debuts on screen (with ‘Ode to My Family’). Though he plays a cameo role that appears briefly, his outstanding presence gives a long-lasting impression. This would owe to the fact that he has been steadily honing his skills as an actor, recently through dramas such as `Queen of Ambition’ and ‘Night Watchmen’s Journal’.
Yunho gives an impassioned performance as famed Korean singer Nam Jin, using dialect. The protagonist Duksoo meets Nam Jin during his dispatchment to Vietnam, and becomes a lifelong fan of his. Amidst the solemn historical background that is the Vietnam War, the mood of the film lightens up in an instant as Nam Jin appears, with his jokes and sprightly use of dialect. We first asked the director about Yunho, who was given the role of such a charming character.

“The Admiral” and “Ode to My Father” Achieve Box Office Success in North America
The Korean films “The Admiral” and “Ode to My Father” were both amongst the top ten highest-grossing foreign films in North America in 2014.
“The Admiral” brought in $2,590,000 USD in North American box office sales, while “Ode to My Father” earned $2,280,000 USD.
This is the first time in eight years that a Korean film has seized a spot on the list of the top ten foreign films in North America. The last film to do so was “The Host,” which came in seventh place in 2007. It is also the first time ever that two Korean films have appeared on the list in one year.
“The Admiral” was released in North America two weeks after it opened in Korea, and “Ode to My Father” appeared in North American theaters only a week after it premiered in Korea. According to a representative of CJ E&M, the company that distributed the films to North America, this meant that domestic Korean marketing for the films was able to influence North American audiences. Rather than having to wait several months after being exposed to Korean advertisements, North Americans were able to see the film almost right away in local theaters.

“Ode to My Father” led the Korean box office during the holiday weekend, drawing attention back to the potential of domestic films. The CJ Entertainment film has led the box office for the past two weekends, helping to drive the American fantasy film “The Hobbit” into fourth place in the Korean market.
According to statistics published by the Korean Film Council, “Ode to My Father” grossed $3.9 million on Christmas Day and led the weekend box office on December 26-28, with more than 37 percent of the viewership.

I always think acting comes before fame and U-Know was tested several times. He helped me break down the prejudice towards idol-actors but if I ever work with more of them again I will test them and give them a role that suits them".
