[NEWS] 150517 TVXQ’s Tokyo Dome show tops Japan viewer chart

K-pop group TVXQ’s Tokyo Dome concert earlier this month topped the live viewership ranking on Japan’s Oricon chart, reports said Sunday. 

“Live-streaming of TVXQ’s Tokyo dome performance was the most viewed in the live broadcast criteria,” Oricon reported. 

Once a quintet but now reduced to a duo, TVXQ is riding high after 10 years of success in Japan. 

It recently completed a series of concerts across Japan that started in February.

The chart-topping video was of the tour’s final performance, which was streamed live online, attracting almost 75,000 viewers. 

TVXQ will hold an encore concert in Seoul at the Olympic Gymnastics Hall on June 13 and 14.

And on and on. We’re talking close to 700 music videos on and on. That′s quite impressive for a duo whose name is short for ′idiot brothers′ and prides itself in its self-effacing demeanor.

CEO and director and one-half of the ZanyBros duo Kim Jun Hong sat down for an exclusive interview with Mwave, where we picked his brain about his craft, K-Pop and, of course, idols. The following is our Q&A.

Mwave: Who was the most memorable artist you’ve worked with?

KJH: TVXQ. If you look at them in their recent music videos, although they’ve been idols for 10 years now, [you can see] they haven’t changed a bit, they’re still full of ‘fighting.’ They work so hard, it makes us want to work harder.

In response to rumors in the Japanese media, SM Entertainment has announced that there has been no official decision made about when TVXQ‘s Yunho will be beginning his military service. However, a representative of SM told Xportsnews that it seems that he will be heading to the army as an active-duty soldier before the year is over, in order to fulfill his required military service. 

According to the Japanese newspaper Sankei Sports, Yunho cried as he said goodbye to fans on April 2 at a concert at Tokyo Dome. The concert was part of TVXQ’s tour that celebrated ten years since their Japanese debut. Sankei Sports reported that Yunho told fans that he won’t be able to take part in concert tours again for a while.

A total of 27 songs(including their new song “SAKURAMICHI” and one of their hit songs “With Love”) were being performed live in about 3 and a half hour to an audience of 55k peoples. 

This tour as a whole has mobilized about 750k peoples in 16 shows across 5 cities in Japan.

In general, one must be enlisted into the army in Korea before you reached your 30th birthday. To Yunho (29) who has reached the age (for army enlistment), today’s live is not just a program/show for their 10th anniversary (since debut in Japan). That remark has attracted a lot of attention.

The Korean films “The Admiral” and “Ode to My Father” were both amongst the top ten highest-grossing foreign films in North America in 2014.

“The Admiral” brought in $2,590,000 USD in North American box office sales, while “Ode to My Father” earned $2,280,000 USD.

This is the first time in eight years that a Korean film has seized a spot on the list of the top ten foreign films in North America. The last film to do so was “The Host,” which came in seventh place in 2007. It is also the first time ever that two Korean films have appeared on the list in one year.

“The Admiral” was released in North America two weeks after it opened in Korea, and “Ode to My Father” appeared in North American theaters only a week after it premiered in Korea. According to a representative of CJ E&M, the company that distributed the films to North America, this meant that domestic Korean marketing for the films was able to influence North American audiences. Rather than having to wait several months after being exposed to Korean advertisements, North Americans were able to see the film almost right away in local theaters.

He became so angry near the end, when the customer realized that she had simply misplaced the wallet that he grabbed her by the wrist and refused to let her go before she apologized to the fan who had been wrongly accused.

[NEWS] 150302 TVXQ Earns 4 Honors at Japan’s Golden Disc Award

TVXQ snagged four awards at Japan’s 29th Golden Disc Award, a rare achievement in Japan for a Korean pop group, the awards committee announced Monday. 

The duo -- Changmin and Yunho -- scooped up the Best Asian Artist award with its third full-length album, “TREE,” released in March last year. The album also topped Japan’s Oricon Monthly Chart. 

The video for the group’s live concert tour, titled “TVXQ LIVE TOUR 2014~TREE~,” earned the duo an award for Best Music Video. 

Best 3 Album also went to TVXQ, which released its fourth studio album, “WITH,” last December, making the duo the first foreign band to land four albums on the Oricon Weekly Albums Chart. 

Hosted by the Recording Industry Association of Japan, the Japanese Golden Disc Award has honored musicians who have contributed to the development of the J-pop industry since 1987. Nominees are selected based on digital albums and CDs, and video sales. 

Last year, TVXQ received five prizes -- Best Asian Artist, Best Album of the Year, Best 3 Album, Best Download Song of the Year and Best Music Video awards. 

The boys are currently touring Japan for the “LIVE TOUR 2015 ~WITH~,” with stops in five cities including Osaka, where they will hold shows on March 14 and 15 and from 17-19.

The singer and his fans donated money to help build the school, the Yunho Education Center, which will accommodate about 200 students.

The international relief organization Food for the Hungry said Yunho decided to participate in the project after visiting Ghana last March for a charity TV show, “Road for Hope.”
